I Didn’t Realize This Was Affecting My Child’s Sleep

Struggling with your child’s sleep? Discover common everyday habits that may be disrupting bedtime and learn simple tips to help your child sleep better naturally.

I currently believe my child’s sleep issues to be transient. There are times I find her as smooth as a silk production, while others come with a guarantee of a long night composed of somersaults, frequent crying and not forgetting, prolonged periods of wakefulness leading to sleep. Initially, I treated such occurrences as a part of the child development course. Only to realize that there were quite a number of small things that were affecting mysleep majorly.

The encouraging bit is,quite frankly, they were pretty straightforward to address.

Too Much Screen Time Before Bed

One of the major struggles that I faced was screen time. My child likes watching videos and playing games on the phone before she gets into bed. At that time she says she is enjoying herself and it helps her calm down; therefore there is no problem.

On the contrary, I observed that it got increasingly difficult to go to sleep The more hours one was on the phone/ tablet or watching TV, for it appears that the brain does not fully relax when exposed to the bright lights on the gadgets.

We decided to skip the screens at most fifty minutes before the bed, and the change was most eminent in the next three days.

An Inconsistent Sleep Schedule.

However, what was There were weekends. The fact was that in weekdays, going to bed was observing the regimen. But on weekends, they were going to bed several hours from rise time.

This disturbed the body clock of my child. As son as we introduced more order in daily sleep, going to bed became a simple task.

Children always get used to the regularity of the clock.

Too Much Movement Before Sleeping

It was always in my mind that making my own child do some form of activities would mean preparing them well for sleep. This was true even on many occasions, yet doing vigorous physical activities just before retiring for the night brought sleep problems .

Running and jumping, games as well as other fun activities usually entrenched fear that they may never fall asleep even once.

We started participating in some quiet activities in the evenings such as reading, coloring, doing puzzles and listening to calm stories.

Distractions In The Bedroom

I also shot an arrow at the wrong mark when it came to the bedroom colours. There were toys everywhere, illuminating lamps of many cartoon colours and at some point one could hear someone in the other rooms.

It was set as a playing room and not a sleeping one too.

Valuing silence and staying calm has had noticeable positive results. We removed many things from the room, turned the lights off, and faced the room in a more peaceful manner.

Having a tranquil sleeping environment works wonders on children.

Eating Sweet in the Evening

The topic of eating and sleeping quality never came to me. Nevertheless, the consumption of sweets and chocolate, sweet juices, and some goodies had a direct effect on the duration of bedtime delay.

These days, if required, we choose fruits and vegetables for evening meals and are strict about sweet consumption after certain period.

This one adjustment made the bedroom and end of day activities less taxing.

Worry and Anxiety

It is difficult for children to open up about everything which is upsetting them all the time. There are school issues, problems with friends, any changes at home, and unnecessary details which may have an impact on their sleep.

We got back to the child and me talking in peace before sleeping. There were moments when my child told me things they had been storing within them the entire day.

It worked because it made them feel at ease that there would be an outlet for the stuff that was too much to handle so they may be still.

Step Up to the Plate, and Make Your Bedtime Soothing:

It is crucial to understand that getting good sleep does not stem from one source but is influenced by several factors. When all these things are left out, the situation even more affects the child, so recovery gets impossible.

This is what is now included in our bedtime rituals:
Regular sleep hygiene
Zero screen time
Calm evening vibe
Cosy bed
Space for talking and decompressing

Conclusion

I came to the realization of just how many of the everyday behaviors were dispruptive to my child’s sleep and decided to observe better. This improvement is surprisingly significant due to the slight adjustments. If a child has inadequate sleep, it may be necessary to also check out the child’s daily schedule, environment, and the usual practices of sleep which may be undermining the effort to help the child. Though, the solution is simple sometimes all that is needed is to involve the subtler points that make one not able to have a good night’s sleep. Here you may make a sentence that will start with however, which each part of the sentence should emphasize the first sentence.
